Remote Working vs Work from Office

The first half of this year has been dominated by social ‘xxx’ only to encourage being un-social about ‘xxx’. The xxx could be media or apps and it still would be true”, commented a friend whom I met in-person after almost three months, early this week during morning walk.

From being a ‘globally connected world’ of hand-shakes and hugs, are we comfortable to embrace ‘distance’ as a measure and means to thrive? Are we truly that vulnerable? Are we hesitant to speak out our mind? These are some of the questions I have while thinking about ‘Remote Working’ as long-term alternative to ‘Working from Office’.

One can recognize the role technology has played in bridging communication gap and appreciate the benefits, still there is yet to be an alternative to in-person meeting and rapport building.

Over the last few years, I have seen ‘Tele-commute’, ‘Work from Home’ evolve into ‘Remote Working’ and also bigger and larger office complexes being set-up (in my part of the world).

There are pros and cons in managing work performed by number of people distributed across geographical locations, I feel a balanced approach is needed to adopt ‘Work from Office’ and ‘Remote Working’.
